If
you own your own business you may need to consider professional
liability insurance, even if you already have an in-home business or
Business Owners Policy (BOP). Professional liability is specifically
designed to protect you from financial loss due to lawsuits filed
against you or your clients.
As a "professional" you're expected to have the technical
knowledge and training required to perform the services you provide;
you're expected to provide the services you are hired for; you're
expected to abide by the standards of conduct of your profession.
If a person or business feels you didn't meet these expectations and
can prove, in a court of law, that harm resulted, you can be liable
for that harm. Some liability insurance is limited to acts of
negligence, that type of professional liability insurance is often
called "errors and omissions" liability.
Professional liability insurance is considered a
"specialty" coverage and is not covered by homeowners'
endorsements, in-home business policies or business owners'
policies. |
